Acknowledgement

images2.jpegYou know the drill. People may give you a scrap of praise but to recognize you – to acknowledge what you have done or who you are and what you mean to your family, partner, co-workers can make a huge difference in your life. Who do you have that stands beside you? Do you mostly hear about your mistakes? Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone who believes in you even when you are having a hard time believing in yourself?

This is part of my journey with you. A negative feeling can quickly translate into a negative image of yourself. A coach can cheer you on but even more than that a coach can see what it is that you offer and translate that for you when you may be clouded by roadblocks and barriers to your growth and personal accomplishment. We can acknowledge when you take action and get moving with your plan. We can help you get off your “but” – that little word that holds you back from soaring instead of crawling. This kind of recognition is not false or fake. It is sincere and truthful. It is more than warm fuzzies and ” ‘attaboys.” If you are looking for the best in someone you will see it. The trouble is that there aren’t many people around you that look for the best in you. The result of this toxicity is that you don’t move on to a new range of accomplishments.

Look how far you have come. Look at your strengths. Do you need someone who will help you believe in yourself? You coach can hold up the vision that you once cherished and could hold all on your own. This very act of seeking out a partner in the process can be courageous and bold and bring you remarkably satisfying results.

Action v Delay in Coaching

Do you fear failure? Is there something that holds you back? Very often it is not doing something that gets in the way of your progress. Fear can get in your way and stop you. If you want to make changes you need to accept that fear may be present, realize that there may be disappointments as a result, and even mistakes but no one has ever died from disappointments.

What actions do you need to take right now? If you have a wonderful idea or thorough plan that may not be enough. It is only action that will move you into a new realm. If there is action their is life, energy, momentum, and awareness that allows us to be open for new experiences. At times an inspiring goal can move us forward, at other times, a brand new perspective, or perhaps accountability with the coach can move us forward.

How might you shift your perception? How might you change the way you look at something? We can do this by asking a really good question, or gaining a new point of view, or having a new vision. What if you knew that you only had six weeks to live…what would you do today? If you needed to muster enormous courage today what would you use it for? If you can’t move out of your comfort zone today – when might you be able to do that?Do you need a push – or do you need a pull. A coach can help with this. Coaching is about action orientation and you. What is holding you back. You can be helped to do that.

“A man is the sum of his actions, of what he has done, of what he can do, nothing else.” M. Gandhi

Time Lines and Trepidation

Anytime we launch a new venture, the UAC’s we’ve talked about lurk close at hand.

I’ve made some good progress this past week with naming my company thanks to a good friend’s idea and our mutual brainstorming. H2O Coaching is now web titled and we are working on trademark and license. The title stands for Horizons 2 Opportunity, which is how I view my coaching and my life’s journey from here on. I’m putting some tools in place as well with a logo, business cards, and plans for a web site underdevelopment. I’m being coached currently and will have an ICA Peer Coach starting tomorrow.

I created a timeline for the completion of ICF Certification and feel great about the initial work I’ve been doing. The application of these principals to my work and service are obvious and so helpful. Beyond that the Horizons are wide open.

I so want to talk with people about what I am doing and have contacts out about a speaking engagement to introduce some of the concepts of coaching to local leaders. “It can be done, can’t must be overcome.” HHM

I spoke with a pastor friend of mine today. He has been a coach since 2004  (success-trek.com) and just announced moving to coaching full time a couple of weeks ago. He is well liked, a good communicator, and group leader. He shared with me how hard it was to do the marketing and break the mid-west mindset on the idea of coaching. I thought a lot about what he said and know in my gut that I can do this but my “fear” of trying something new (like roller skating) seems a bit daunting.

I’m learning a great deal from the ICA experience. Jim, Bill, JoAnne, Marcie, Karen, and the others all seem to care deeply about what they are doing and I appreciate this so much. Today I look forward to the class on enthusing so much, even though it is late, and now as introductions are being made I’ll get fully present for the class.
